Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Edison High School 52-37 Saturday in the fourth round of the Battle At The Beach Tournament hosted by Redondo Union. Costa acquired a top performance from junior shooting guard Allie Navarette who scored 28 points.

The game intensity was extreme for both teams. Costa was able to maintain a lead for most of the game, despite a few scoring drives by Edison. According to Navarette, getting shots in transition helped the Mustangs keep their lead.

“We executed our plays well and made sure to run our lanes wide to get a lot of transition shots, which greatly increased our lead,” Navarette said.

The 2-2 Mustangs will take on Los Alamitos Tuesday in their first game of the Hawk Holiday Classic tournament hosted by Ocean View High School. According to Navarette, Costa will need to improve on defense if they hope to continue winning.

“For our next game, we definitely need to work on our defense as a team and make sure we are in help defense and able to box out,” Navarette said.
