Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Gardena High School 66-59 in the Pacific Shores Tournament final at home on Saturday. The Mustangs were led to victory by sophomore guard Bobby Barkley and senior forward Quenton Jackson.

Barkley and Jackson each collected 17 points and two assists, even though the two got off to relatively slow starts due to Gardena’s tough defense. Barkley earned all-tournament honors, and Jackson was the tournament MVP. According to Barkley, the team’s play on the fast break led to many good scoring opportunities.

“Our ability to drive to the basket and score on the fast break were key in getting this win,” Barkley said.

The Mustangs are now 4-0 overall and will next play Pacific Hills High School on Monday in the El Segundo Tournament at El Segundo High School. According to Coach Jeff Amaral, the team is looking forward to another week of good games.

“This next week will prove what our team can do when we work hard and play together,” Amaral said.
