Manhattan Beach hosts annual fireworks show

The city of Manhattan Beach hosted their annual firework show over the Manhattan Beach pier December 13 commence the holiday season.

Within the past 27 years, the fireworks provided a festive way to celebrate the holidays for Manhattan Beach. Performances at the fireworks included Mira Costa’s jazz ensemble, Hyperion Outfall conducted their “Dixieland Christmas”, and Joe’s Band’s holiday music family singalong.

“The fireworks are an enjoyment for the whole family,” Manhattan Beach resident Melissa Hall said. “It brings everyone together to celebrate Christmas with one another.”

Before the show, South Bay families and children gathered along the pier to enjoy the Santa float, holiday bounce park, and the snowpark. The snowpark included snowmen for family pictures, 50 feet of sledding runs, and snow play areas. Admission for the park required a donation of a new gift, cash, or canned food for the YMCA Adventure Guides charity.

“Any donations around this time of year are helpful and the fact that we get more from the community is really helpful,” Manhattan Beach resident Corey Bennett said.

At 5 p.m., the Mira Costa jazz ensemble performed their Christmas songs that concluded at 6 o’clock p.m. Over the course of two months, the band has been practicing to perfect their final intro, logistics, and order of their performance on December 13th.

“Our Christmas songs included a jazz twist so that people can recognize the tune while listening to great vibes,” Sophomore Dave Jha rhythm jazz ensemble said. “Christmas music is apart of almost every household during the holidays and we hoped to convey that and get everyone in the holiday spirit.”

After the Costa jazz ensemble performance, the Hyperion Outfall performed their songs “Dixieland Christmas,” Following with the holiday music performances, attendees were able to participate at 6 o’clock in a singalong from the musical group Joe’s Band.

After all of the musical performances, the main show began at 7 o’clock with Pette Moffetts productions that put on the Manhattan Beach fireworks witnessed by friends and family celebrating the 27th annual event that kicks off our holiday season.

“It is a good way for the community to all come together and celebrate the holidays,” said Sophomore Tessa Dettelbach. “Everyone can get in the Christmas spirit and get excited for more festive days to come.”
