Grimes’s newest album, “Art Angels,” is a freaky, fun and uplifting album with songs that can make anyone dance around in their seat.
“Art Angels” is an album that strays from the mainstream, yet containing danceable beats. Grimes uses her unique voice to make songs cheerful, and while the songs can be confusing, due to her screeches and unclear lyrics, they seem to get better each listen.
This is Grime’s, also known as Claire Boucher’s, fourth studio album. She began recording “Art Angels” in 2013 with plans to be released in 2014 and just weeks before the release date she decided to start fresh and released the new “Art Angels” on November 4,2015 and receiving widespread critical acclaim.
“Art Angels,” has been Grimes highest charting album, and it includes songs featuring Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes and American recording artist Janelle Monáe. This is Grime’s first album collaborating with other artists.
“Art Angels” utilizes lyrics and content that are unlike any other such as screaming and panting in songs, songs with less than 20 words, and even a song in Chinese.
Although many songs are freaky and unheard of, the beats are alive and jumpy and bring out the album as a whole.
Although the beats are energetic and exciting, the lyrics featured in Grimes new album are often strange and indecipherable. She frequently screams and mumbles, making her songs hard to follow and ruining the album.
“Art Angels’” lyrics not only are hard to hear but they even start with a song with less than 20 seconds of lyrics, it’s a mainly an instrumental album. It contains fast and uplifting beats, which make Grimes’s high-pitched and annoying voice sounds like random noises.
Just like the lyrics in “Art Angels,” Grime’s arrangement of songs are random and confusing with no clear flow throughout the album. The songs change from slow and depressed with slow beats and hums as vocals, to fast beats and screams as vocals every song.
The foot tapping beats and exciting loud vocals give a great vibe. While many songs are impossible to tell what Grimes is saying, Art Angels is an album for any mood during any time of the day and besides confusing lyrics and her sometimes annoying scream it’s a great listen.
“Art Angels” was released on November 4,2015 via 4AD,Grime’s record label, and is available now on Itunes, spotify, and other popular music services.
