Mira Costa’s girls water polo team lost to both Coronado High School and Agoura Hills High School 11-3 in the Irvine Southern California Champions tournament at the Irvine Dive Pool on Saturday. the top performers were seniors utility Kaylee Brownsberger and Yen Nguyen.

The Mustangs had difficulties at the beginning of both of their games against Coronado and Agoura Hills and were losing 6-1 and 8-2 respectively at half time. In the second half, Costa continued to fall behind and even with one goal by both Brownsberger and Nguyen, Costa lost both games. According to Nguyen, the games could have gone smoother.

“We played really well yesterday, so it was surprising to lose so badly today,” Nguyen said. “We played really difficult teams, so we just tried to do our best.”

The Mustangs are currently 4-1 in Bay League and 15-11 overall. The team’s next game is a Bay League game against Peninsula at home on Monday. According to Nguyen, the team hopes to redeem itself from our performance on Saturday.

“Peninsula has a tough water polo team so the match should be interesting,” Nguyen said. “We have come so far this season and I know we have the potential to win.”
