Girls basketball defeats Bishop Montgomery 70-50

Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Bishop Montgomery High School 70-50 in a non-conference home game Saturday. Junior forward Mia Finney contributed a standout performance with a number of a rebounds and hustle plays.
In the first quarter, both teams put up a substantial amount of points, keeping the game close. By the end of the first half, the Knights trailed by around ten points. Costa continued to play good defense in the second half, keeping the game close. According to sophomore Haley Herdman, the Mustangs kept a good attitude the entire game.
“We did really good job of playing together, keeping positive thoughts, and having a very strong start to the game,” Herdman said.
The 17-7 Mustangs will take on Morningside High School at home Tuesday in their second to last game of the season. According to Herdman, the team will need to work on dealing with defensive pressure in order to be successful in the future.
“We need to improve on offense, especially how we deal with pressure from opposing defenses,” Herdman said.
