“Snap it, make it, wear it.”

Over the summer, Mira Costa junior Mia Finney began experimenting with the app Yoshirt and created templates for T-shirts from her personal photograph

“I was just fooling around with it,” Finney said. “I never thought I could make a clothing line but then I thought it was fun so I continued and started to make templates for different shirts.”

Yoshirt is an app where people are able to pick any style of shirt and design it however they want. Designers are able to use their own photography for the shirts or can create new designs however they choose once the design is finished. They are then able to order their designs and wear them.

“I really like the freedom the app gives me,” Finney said. “It’s cool to have a blank page to design whatever I want and to create a product I am proud of.”

Finney’s interest in photography was sparked two years ago when her parents gave her a camera for Christmas. As she progressed and used higher quality cameras, she began sharing her photography on social media platforms such as instagram. Finney’s photography focuses on sunsets and the beach in Manhattan.

“I like to take pictures of anything that catches my eye,” Finney said. “Normally my pictures are taken around MB and I upload them to social media to see what looks best.”

Finney first used her photography in a T-shirt design as a gift for her grandmother. After receiving the finished product, she realized she could create more unique styles and began exploring the app to create different templates.

“Mia’s a creative young lady and I knew her first design was going to turn out great,” father Ernest Finney said. “Once it was printed and delivered, it turned out to be even greater than I imagined.”

Mia Finney hopes her current products will be successful enough so that in the future she is able to create her own website. She wants to expand her business and share her merchandise with more people.

“Now there are not a lot of shirts that are unique and I want to see people wearing something different,” Mia Finney said. “It would be cool to see people liking my designs enough to wear them.”
