Senior Kathrina Angeles’ career in the Air Force will be taking off as soon as she graduates from Costa. She has secured a job as an Aircraft Armament Systems Apprentice, which she will begin in the fall of 2016.

Angeles chose to join the Air Force because it is the easiest branch of the military for women to get involved in due to its multiple positions with limited combat, she said. As an Aircraft Armament Systems Apprentice, she will inspect weapons to see if they are functional and will be responsible for the loading and unloading of weapons at bases around the world.

“I am looking forward to my job,” Angeles said. “I’ll be moving around to different places because there are bases all over the world, and I don’t like being stuck in the same place, so I’m excited.”

Angeles will receive her Air Force basic training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas over the summer. After basic training, she will attend a technology school at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas where she will learn more about the job that she will be performing.

After several months of training, she will be deployed for four years, but the location won’t be released to her until she graduates technology school. Once her four-year contract is up, she hopes to attend college using the GI Bill benefits, Angeles said

“Being in the air force is not exactly a typical job, but it seems exciting, and I won’t be sitting at a desk for hours,” Angeles said. “I hope that I’ll be able to use the skills I get in the military in future jobs.”
