Junko Cohn takes the typically green shirts that most Costa students have and really brings out shining gold, and school spirit, with new designs with her hard work.

Cohn started her company when she began to notice that many students were not wearing spirit wear. This inspired her to create trendy shirts according to her customers. Seeing vintage looking shirts in stores gave her the thought to make the Mustang shirts a new look, so she decided to get more materials at a fabric store.

My main goal in the end of everything is to make people feel comfortable wearing their spirit wear on Fridays and to make my customers happy,” said Junko.”

“I love having school spirit and wearing green and gold on Fridays, and I have a hard time understanding why some people don’t like dressing up on Fridays or showing school spirit,” said Senior Junko Cohn. “ This is why I thought it would be a unique idea to start.”

First, she cuts the shirt in order to make it a V-neck properly, taking the fabric, and sewing the eyelets on, and the places the fabric on the V-neck. Last she takes the string and laces through the eyelets. Her final product is the basic Costa shirt with a V-neck with little silver rings right down the middle, with white or black string is typically laced through the silver rings.

“ I like to give the customers options, so I typically pick out a couple colors of the fabric for them to choose from,” said Junko Cohn. “I give them the selection of white and black colors and they can mix the colors or keep them the same.”

The shirts are not that hard to make, but it is time consuming, taking a total of two hours to produce the final product, Cohn said. Since the shirts have to be exact, it takes a while to cut a perfect V down the middle of the shirt and then having to align the fabricate, she said.

“The process of making the shirts took a while but i was so excited when i saw the final product that it made all the time and effort worth it,” said Junko Cohn.

Cohn felt the Mustang shirts had a masculine look to them, so she thought females might want a more feminine option. By making them different and more stylish, she hoped that spirit day would be more enjoyable and fun according to other Costa students. Cohn does not like having other people help her with the shirts because she believes it would be hard with someone else telling her what to do.

“ The shirts are really cute and I love wearing it on fridays to show school spirit,” said customer Robin Wilson. “ I can really tell Junko put time and effort into the shirts.”

She sells the shirts for fifteen dollars. All people have to do is bring in their Costa shirt and Cohn will cut and lace it for them. She is able to produce the shirts in about two hours without any help. After, the students are able to wear their new shirts on spirit fridays.

“I love seeing people wearing the shirts that I make,” said Junko Cohn. “It’s super cool to know that they love the idea as much as I do.”

Junko loves making shirts for the students at Costa, but she does not plan on expanding the business that much, at most, she might start re-designing different shirt from colleges that the seniors at Costa get into Cohn said. In college,  Cohn does not plan on expanding on going into the fashion industry however, she is considering doing something business related that allows her to be creative.

“ My main goal in the end of everything is to make people feel comfortable wearing their spirit wear on Fridays and to make my customers happy,” said Junko. “According to my customers they told me they were excited to wear the shirts.”
