Mira Costa’s band played a variety of music including Hanukkah literature, Christmas classics and music from around the word at its annual holiday concert on Friday in the auditorium.
The six different groups that played were Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Percussion Studio, Jazz 1, and Combined Jazz. Each group played two of their own pieces independently and then all groups participated in the final piece, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
“It’s so fun to get everyone in the spirit of the holidays,” Drum Major Adrian Yu said. “The crowd gets really into it when we play a popular piece. This concert is one of our most fun of the year.”
According to flute player Emily Angstreich, the individual practice and the additional work the band students did in class made the concert go smoothly, and it helped them prepare for technical issues.
“Wind Symphony played really well and I was super happy with what we put on stage,” Angstreich said. “As a whole, all [of] Costa’s bands were incredible and some were the best I have ever seen.”
