LAPD arrests Manhattan Beach crossing guard

The Los Angeles Police Department works with the Beach Cities police departments when such incidents occur. The LAPD within Redondo Beach arrested a Manhattan Beach crossing guard.

The Los Angeles Police Department within Redondo Beach arrested a Manhattan Beach crossing guard earlier today, Manhattan Beach Unified School District Dr. Michael Matthews said in an email sent to MBUSD families at 9:01 p.m.

The crossing guard, identified as Ricardo Portillo, was arrested for Possession of Child Pornography, according to the email. He had been working on Peck Ave. in Manhattan Beach, hired by a third-party vendor, but will not return to the city. In the email, Matthews states that LAPD is conducting the investigation, and MBPD is not involved.

“The [city’s] vendor has assured us that this individual will not return to the City of Manhattan Beach as a crossing guard,” Matthews said in the email. “They will provide a crossing guard replacement beginning tomorrow.”
