Moy was anonymously nominated to the performance series and invited by its selection board committee to audition. Performing at Carnegie Hall is a coveted opportunity, and in most cases, is a once-in-a lifetime event.

“I received a notification in the mail of my nomination from the American High School Honors Performance Series and decided to go for it. I thought that I would have a wonderful time singing, meeting new people and being in a new place,” Moy said.

Under Costa’s choir director Michael Hayden, Moy has studied choral music since her freshman year. She has been a member of the multicultural choir, Southern California Vocal Association honors choir, and is currently in the advanced women’s choir.

“Stephanie is an exceptional example of the philosophy of our choral department. With just a little help from the faculty, she achieved her goal, and for that we are very proud,” Hayden said.

The American High School Performance Series showcases high school students who have individually accomplished a high level of performance.

“It’s thrilling that I get to meet new people from all over the continent that have the same passion that I have,” Moy said.

The series also includes three groups of performers: the honors orchestra, the honors band, and the honors choir.

“I hope to make new friends and learn everything I can from the program to better myself as a singer,” Moy said.

Moy is also involved in music outside of choir. She has been playing piano for 10 years. She started a private research program that helps those with memory problems and diseases such as Alzheimer’s through her music.

“Learning music and meeting new people is only a part of the fun I will have. I’m just doing what I love to do,” Moy said.
