Costa faced off against Brentwood in the Boys Basketball Pacific Shores Tournament on Dec. 4 in the Fisher Gym. The Mustangs lost, 77-72, in overtime.

“We came out flat. It was a disappointing first half,” coach Henry Myar said.

Although Costa ended the first quarter behind at 18-8, center Thomas Johnson and forward Elliot Ozer, both seniors, helped the team stay competitive. The half ended with the Mustangs behind at 35-22.

The turning point in the game came when junior guard Max Watson stole the ball and made a game-tying layup. Ozer then drove to the basket and gave the Mustangs their first lead.

At the end of the fourth quarter, Costa and Brentwood were tied and went into overtime. The Mustangs struggled to regain a lead and lost, 77-72.

Costa’s greatest contributors were Ozer with 33 points and Johnson with nine points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore Cole Feaster also had nine points and five rebounds in the game.

The Mustangs (2-2) will be traveling on Dec. 11 for a non-league game against Palm Desert (3-0).

“I’m confident that we will do better next Saturday against Palm Desert,” Myar said.
