The Mira Costa Badminton team competed against schools including Cerritos, Arcadia, San Gabriel and Long Beach Poly High School in a tournament at Azusa High School on April 14.

Overall, mixed doubles pair Henry Yu and Scarlett Luo placed first in consolation after claiming victory against players from Azusa. The top girls singles player Luo placed first and sophomore Alisa Chen followed by placing second, as well as girls doubles duo Audrey Mei and Audrey Kim winning first place in consolation. While boys singles players weren’t able to place, boys doubles partners Yu and Tiger Hao took fourth place.

“Several of our team’s top players were absent today,” freshman Sam Liu said. “But I’m thankful that the rest of the team still managed to successfully place in the tournament and bring medals home.”

The Mustangs are currently 2-2 and will next play Fairmont Preparatory Academy at a home game on April 19 at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.

“I’m glad I was able to place in multiple games today and by placing first twice in a row, I think my hard practice really paid off,” Luo said. “I anticipate the Fairmont match to be an easy one.”
