Mira Costa’s Comedy Sportz team lost 41-36 in its prom-themed away match against rival Redondo Union High School on Friday, where players wore formal clothes.

After the rock-paper-scissors infinity challenge between both team captains, the Redondo captain suggested the game of Expert Challenge, where players have to give an informative speech on a topic of the audience’s choice. The topic was lettuce, and Costa won five points. Costa finished the first half 19-15 Redondo after games of Blind Line, Good Bad Worst, Four Square and Garth.

“[The best part about the match was] wearing suspenders, a Hawaiian shirt and dress shoes all in one outfit,” senior Toby Kamish said.

Both teams had high energy levels throughout, leading to a close match. In the second half, Costa played the game of Captain Replay, while Redondo played Yearbook, resulting in Costa being down, 20-19. After the final game of Object freeze, where players made jokes with objects from the audience, Costa lost 41-36.

“This year [of Comedysportz] has been one giant adrenaline rush,” senior Toby Kamish said. “Comedy Sportz is dear to my heart and I couldn’t have imagined my highschool career without it.”

Comedy Sportz had its next match on May 20 at the Jocyln Center, where Costa seniors and senior citizens competed against each other. The last match of the year is on June 8, where Costa alumni will play against seniors.

“The alumni are always funny as heck and I’m sad that it will be my last match but I wouldn’t end the year any other way,” Kamish said. “The alumni match is a culmination of the funniest of the funniest and is most definitely the best match of the year.”
