“Night School” produces a predictable conclusion and the plot fails to surprise viewers but the comical jokes add moments of laughter from the audience.

Malcolm D. Lee directed the movie, and Kevin Hart wrote and starred in the film. Hart plays Teddy Walker, Tiffany Haddish plays Teddy’s teacher and Megalyn Echikunwoke plays Teddy’s girlfriend.

Teddy Walker is a high school dropout who works as a salesman. After proposing to his girlfriend he accidentally sets his store on fire and is forced to get a new job. He is given the opportunity to work with his friend in finance but has to join nightschool to get a GED first. There, he has to deal with his high school nemesis who wants revenge and his intimidating teacher Carrie, who is intolerant to Teddy’s bad behavior.

The movie’s plot is uneventful as it has a foreseeable ending that is not realistic, which makes it unrelatable to viewers. The movie also lacks features to make it unique.

The acting, which is a more positive aspect of the film, gives the audience a few life lessons such as having second chances and working hard to do the best. After discovering he has learning disabilities, Teddy decides to end his habits of taking shortcuts and works hard to get his GED. The characters make the movie more enjoyable but at times the conversations between them seem awkward and unnatural. The characters are very stereotypical which makes the movie cliche.

“Night School” lacked in creating captivating visuals as the cinematography doesn’t seem special. This affects the way the movie is perceived by viewers because it creates an unexciting story to watch. The cinematography also disturbs the flow of the film as concepts aren’t fully developed and confuse viewers.

The movie includes strong language and a few inappropriate jokes which seem forced because they don’t have any significance to the plot. Some comments could also be seen as offensive to viewers as it touches on racial stereotypes and disabilities.

The movie provides a long and predictable storyline that seems to bore the audience. The characters although stereotypical, are enjoyable to watch. “Night School” is a good movie for people looking for a comedy but it is not meant for audiences looking for an interesting or unique plot.

“Night School” is rated PG-13 and is available in theaters nationwide.
