Mira Costa Boys Basketball lost 49-42 to Redondo Union High School on January 15,2019 at el Segundo high school with a top performance by senior Lucas Hobbs.

Both teams came out energized and aggressive creating a very intense first half. Shots by senior Lucas Hobbs and senior Henry Householter allowed Costa to finish the first quarter in the lead, 12-10. Although Costa played a good half their offense fell short in the second quarter allowing Redondo to capitalize and end the half with a three point lead 22-19, Redondo. According to Hobbs the team did well on defense.

“ We were clearly the better team in the first half, even though we were down three. Our defensive game plan worked to perfection and they were forced to take shots and could not do what they wanted to.We just needed to hit more shots on the offensive end.” Said Hobbs.

The fierce environment continued throughout the second half as both teams aggression and competitiveness only grew stronger. Redondo’s dominant offense and multiple fouls from Mira Costa’s defense allowed them to end the third quarter with a lead of 35-24, Redondo. As the game went on  Redondo’s offense only became more powerful, Costa held a strong front on defense and continued to make baskets by junior Max McCalla and senior Matt Hammick but Redondo held the upper hand and won the game with a final score of 49-42, Redondo. According to senior Parker Lynch the team fell short in the third quarter.

“ The third quarter was rough for us, and unfortunately our 4th quarter run was not enough, but I think we can get them next time.” Said Lynch.

Mira Costa will next face off Penn at Manhattan Beach Middle School on January 18, 2019 at 7:30pm.

“ We played well, we just missed a lot of shots. Hopefully on Friday we have a better shooting night in a very winnable game vs Penn.” said junior Max McCalla.
