Gunna proves why he is one of the best rap artists in the industry by staying afloat with the release of his impressive “Drip or Drown 2” album.
Gunna’s latest album provides listeners with high quality, memorable tracks while showcasing the extent of Gunna’s musical talents. The album successfully incorporates melodic hooks, catchy lyrics and rhythmic beats compiled into ‘hits’ of songs. Sergio Kitchens, professionally known as Gunna, is an Atlanta-based rap artist who has captured the mainstream attention with his unique melodic, mumble style of rap. Gunna is one of the many prominent young rap artists beginning to dominate the music industry and its culture. The rapper began to attract much of his followers after the release of his ‘Drip Season 3’ album in 2018. Since then he has released multiple platinum-awarding singles and a collaborative project titled “Drip Harder” with Lil Baby.
“Drip or Drown 2” was released through YSL Records and includes a total of 16 tracks. The project features a multitude of other rap artists such as Lil Baby, Young Thug and Playboi Carti. The project also incorporates the works of many reputable producers such as Wheezy, Turbo and Zaytoven.
The high quality production of Gunna’s album is quick to notice as it perfectly blends and portrays sounds that please listeners. The delivery of the vocals along with the precise quality of how they are projected demonstrate perfection in Gunna’s voice and flow.
The album presents listeners with a variety of Gunna’s different styles of rap. On tracks such as “Speed It Up” and “On A Mountain,” Gunna exhibits a faster style while combining it with a rhythmic, mumbled approach. On tracks such as “Outstanding” and “Richard Millie Plain,” Gunna does the opposite by engaging listeners with a slow beat and smooth, relaxing vocals.
Gunna grabs audiences with his catchy and memorable lyrics. His easy-to-remember lyrics and the delivery of those lyrics support why his flow holds mainstream liking. In the project, Gunna raps about his luxurious lifestyle, his hardships in attaining success and the progress of his life. On “Same Yung N****,” Playboi Carti connects with Gunna to represent their Atlanta roots, while showcasing his unique mumble style of rap.
The best artistic track on the album is “Out The Hood” because it accompanies Gunna’s quick, melodic rap with a guitar sample that soothes and satisfies auditorily. “Speed It Up” holds the most potential of gaining Billboard success because of its memorable hook and electric energy.
