Billie Eilish combines love and fear in her latest album, “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?” to make an album that is extremely fun to listen to.

Released on March 29 by Darkroom and Interscope Records, “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?” has 17 tracks, all written and comprised by Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell.

This 17-year-old musician debuted in 2016, with the single “Ocean Eyes,” followed by eight other tracks released earlier in her career. Although Eilish is only a young teenager, she discusses adult content and her personal experiences in a way that appeals to almost all listeners.

In “wish you were gay,” Eilish sings about a man that she loves who doesn’t love her back. She wishes he was gay so he would have a better reason for not liking her. While the song is incredibly catchy and filled with meaningful lyrics and beats, it’s a little uncomfortable to listen to due to the controversial subject matter.

“Bad guy” has catchy, odd lyrics and a very creepy music video. It’s full of surprises and will definitely get stuck in listeners heads, despite the rather abnormal beats.

“My strange addiction” is really bizarre. While it has incredible lyrics, it also incorporates dialogue from The Office, which becomes really confusing. Like all of Eilish’s tracks, it is eerie, melodic and wonderful to listen to.

“Bury a friend” has incredible lyrics, as well as a super creepy music video. The song is catchy and sticks in listerners’ heads for so long. It refers to personal demons with lyrics like “I wanna end me.” By incorporating these lyrics, Eilish displays her sad side while giving listeners insight to her life.

“All the good girls go to hell” has lots of biblical allusions, as well as an allusion to the California forest fires that recently burned parts of Malibu and Paradise. She also calls God a girl, while also almost referencing Ariana Grande’s “god is a woman.”

“Ilomilo,” another track on the album, is based off a 2010 puzzle game where players must reunite “ilo” and “milo,” small characters on either side of the screen. Eilish confirmed that this track is about separation. It’s also one of Eilish’s favorite tracks that she’s ever recorded, and anyone who listens to it easily agrees. The lyrics are powerful and convey deep meanings.

“Listen before i go,” is Eilish singing to a lover before she kills herself. The song is entrancing, using rhythm and repetitive lyrics to draw the listener in. It’s mournful and melancholy, and employs the sound of rain and thunder to add even more emotion.

“when the party’s over” has a serene tone, but an angry undertone to a lover. It’s almost dismissive to him, and when looked into, the lyrics have many hidden meanings. Listeners will never know what’s coming in this or in any of her tracks, and it’s incredible to listen to.

Billie Eilish has a soft, soothing voice that she showcases in this album. She uses scary, murderous imagery combined with almost humorous bits of sound. It makes something that’s interesting to listen to and constantly surprises the listener.

The album was released on Mar. 29th and can be purchased on iTunes for $9.99 or streamed on platforms like Spotify and YouTube.
