An exciting coming of age story, “Teen Spirit” captivates audiences with a sensational performance from Elle Fanning.

“Teen Spirit” follows a shy teenager named Violet, played by Fanning, as she attempts to escape her small town to pursue her dreams of being a singer. With the help of her mentor, she enters a singing competition to test her true talent.

A Polish teenager living on the Isle of Wight, working a job she hates and sulking through high school, Violet has a bigger vision for herself. Singing at her local open mic, she is noticed by retired opera singer Vlad (Zlatko Buric), who guides her through her journey to fulfilling her dreams.

Fanning’s portrayal of Violet is captivating as she continues to hold the audience’s attention with her acting. Stealing every scene she’s in, Fanning does some of her best work in “Teen Spirit.”

The dynamic between Fanning and Buric is amazing and really makes the film feel genuine. As the movie progresses, we see their connection grow and foster into nearly a father-daughter dynamic.

Throughout the movie, viewers are constantly blown away by Fanning’s voice. Her vocal capabilities are far beyond what viewers would expect, and she is naturally talented in that aspect. While she has some assistance through digital manipulation of her voice, it isn’t very apparent.

The biggest problem with this movie is the lack of information about the characters. Although viewers are rooting for Violet the whole time, they aren’t overly concerned about her fate. The movie doesn’t let viewers get really close and personal to truly know and understand who she is.

Coming in the wake of “A Star is Born,” this movie is a similar story of a girl pursuing her dreams. The film focuses on the strong female protagonist and is an inspiring coming of age story.

Released on April 12th, “Teen Spirit” is rated PG-13 and can be seen in theaters nationwide.
