Capturing the lives of many in New York during the 2008 Financial Crisis, “Hustlers” is a witty, thrilling and entertaining film showing another side of business involving money, drugs and seduction.
With its outstanding cast, “Hustlers” proves to be more than just a stripper film. It impeccably reveals the hardships and extreme measures people went through during the financial crisis through its unbelievable acting, unwavering friendships and risky lifestyle.
“Hustlers” stars Lili Reinholt as Annabelle, Jennifer Lopez as Ramona, Constance Wu as Destiny, Cardi B as Diamond and Keke Palmer as Mercedes. Jennifer Lopez, Will Farrell and Adam McKay produced the film and Lorene Scafaria directed the film.
Based off of the book, “The Hustlers at Scores” by Jessica Pressler, “Hustlers” follows Destiny and Ramona as they work as strippers on Wall Street. When the 2008 financial crisis hits, they plan a scheme with a couple other dancers to make their living.
The music in “Hustlers” was catchy, upbeat and fit each scene flawlessly. Every song was uniquely chosen for the scene, which added to the overall greatness of the film. The film was set in 2007, the songs perfectly fit the era, including songs such as “Gimme More” by Brittney Spears and “The Way You Move” by Usher.
“Hustlers” shows the love and support true friends give to each other no matter the situation. The women in “Hustlers” are forced to deal with dangerous and serious situations which allows them to create long lasting, dependable friendships with those around them, which is truly inspiring to the viewer.
The film can be a bit repetitive at times by showing similar stripper scenes that seem to blend together. Even still, the film entices the viewer and keeps them at the edge of their seat for the next jaw dropping scene.
Even at 50 years old, Jennifer Lopez is absolutely stunning and graceful. She beautifully takes on her role as Ramona and never lets up. She is perfect for her role and was a remarkable asset to the film.
The film’s diverse cast of women adds to the film’s striking storyline. Each woman has her unique background with terrible hardships and difficulties. This allows for the women to come together to form uplifting and heartening friendships.
“Hustlers” is a spectacular film with an amazing cast. It gives the viewers an inside look into the enigmatic and mystical lifestyle of those on Wall Street leaving the viewer wanting more. The women form unbreakable bonds with infinite support which are truly inspiring.
Released on September 13, “Hustlers” is rated R and can be seen in theaters nationwide.
