With a welcoming environment and  music, several DJs produced a stellar performance at Sunday Sessions on Aug. 18 in Grand Park from 2 to 8 p.m.

Grand Park’s Sunday Sessions provided a relaxing close to the weekend for guests of all ages at their free concert event. The event was a hidden gem for locals to enjoy good music and food. Up-and-coming artists also previewed their music to a welcoming, supportive crowd.

A wide variety of people from downtown L.A. came to listen and enjoy themselves at the free concert. DJs included Los Angeles native Thee-O, who performed for more than three hours on Aug. 18, and Dela Moon, who performed for about an hour. DJ “Truncate” took over for the last set, delivering original beats to the crowd. The “6 AM group,” a digital and experiential media platform, curated the show.

For its seventh summer in a row, Grand Park’s Sunday Sessions hosted house music curators and DJs on select dates throughout the summer. These DJs celebrated American-originated, globally embraced art in the form of house music.

Thee-O started out as a DJ when he was 13, and by the time he was 18, he started to DJ in the thriving underground rave scene of Southern California. Since then, he has been changing genres, including house music, and creating a name for himself. His consistency of skillful mixing and lively scratching on his turntable has successfully solidified his sound. Thee-O’s performance at Sunday Sessions successfully got the crowd on its feet due to his upbeat set. The excitement in his performance kept up the energy that was consistent during the entire duration of Sunday Sessions.

Sunday Sessions had a relaxed atmosphere, but guests had the freedom to get up and dance near the stage. About half of the crowd enjoyed dancing and watched the DJ, while the other half socialized and lounged on the grass. This was a great way for visitors to explore different experiences throughout the day.

The setting allowed guests to set up blankets on the grass or purchase food from the nearby food trucks. The taco trucks offered authentic Mexican food, ranging from delicious street tacos to tasty enchiladas. As the day gets warmer, guests indulged in ice cream and iced lemonade. Other food trucks offered burgers and hot dogs that were fairly priced and perfect for the family-friendly setting. Starbucks is  also located in the center of Grand Park and offered cool refreshments on the hot day.

Dozens of Costa students and alumni attended Sunday Sessions each month of the summer. The free concert combined with the small, intimate venue attracted students looking to enjoy an afternoon in Los Angeles with their friends, along with listening to new, trendy music.

The performance took place on the park’s Performance Lawn, just north of Hill Street. It was a great concert for teens and adults to partake in without having to pay for tickets.

The next Sunday Sessions will be on Sunday. Artists J Rocc, Jen Ferrer, DJ Mamabear and Frosty will perform from 2 to 8 p.m. For more information about Grand Park’s events, visit @grandpark_la on Instagram.
