Lil Mosey’s sophomore studio-recorded album, “Certified Hitmaker,” proves to be an irony of its title, offering few hits at best.

“Certified Hitmaker” disappoints with mediocre tracks that lack originality, diversity, and depth. The album falls short of offering memorable songs, instead presenting repetitive, boring choruses that dilute the album to being simply average.

Lathan Echols, professionally known as Lil Mosey, is a rising 17 year old rapper from Seattle. He first jumped on the radar in 2017 with the release of his single, “Pull Up.” The young artist then gained mainstream attention with a platinum single in “Noticed.” Lil Mosey has since released a debut album titled, “Northsbest,” and captured a growing youth fanbase.

“Certified Hitmaker” is Lil Mosey’s second studio-recorded album with a total of 14 tracks. The album includes features from Chris Brown, Gunna, Trippie Redd, and AJ Tracey. The album also incorporates the works of respected producers Royce David, Kid Culture, and ForeignGotEm.

The most apparent flaw of Lil Mosey’s “Certified Hitmaker” is its inability to capture listeners’ attention. All of the tracks sound too similar to each other, offering dull hooks and basic lyrics. The lack of uniqueness fails to excite and differentiate Lil Mosey as an artist.

Lil Mosey’s mumbled delivery obscures the quality of the album, showcasing an annoyance of sound. His quiet, muffled vocals are difficult to understand behind the energetic melodies creating confusion and a contrast of vibrancy.

Despite an extensive amount of mediocre tracks, the album does offer a few tracks with billboard potential. Lil Mosey impresses on “Stuck In A Dream,” “G Walk,” and “Rose Gold.” In these tracks, Lil Mosey finds success in creating catchy, memorable hooks that satisfy auditorily.

The production of “Certified Hitmaker” does its job, providing listeners with melodic, pop-style beats. The beats prove to be a positive aspect of the album, creating an atmosphere of high energy while resonating with Lil Mosey’s distinct sound.

The artist collaborations on the album make up for Lil Mosey’s shortcomings and ultimately compliment the song by themselves. Trippie Redd’s verse on “Never Scared” attracts listeners with ecstatic pitches, noteworthy lyrics, and a rhythmic tempo.

Lil Mosey’s “Certified Hitmaker” leaves listeners dissatisfied with unoriginal content. The sophomore album fails to live up to expectations previously set by his debut album. “Certified Hitmaker” produces minimal hits and rather more imitations of Lil Mosey’s prior music.

Lil Mosey’s “Certified Hitmaker” was released on Nov. 8 by Interscope Records. The album is available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes and can also be streamed on platforms such as Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, and Soundcloud.
