Costa teachers and students were informed during third period on Oct. 31 that students were highly recommended to stay indoors during lunch due to the poor air quality from local fires.

According to the Air Quality Management District, the air quality index in Manhattan Beach was at 143, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. The administration asked that teachers keep windows and doors closed and canceled all outdoor school sports and activities for the day.
“It’s hard to stay focused in classes, especially when you feel light-headed and sick from the bad air quality,” junior Rachel Abbe said. “But having to stay indoors also takes away from the fun of Halloween and seeing everyone’s costumes.”
