High school students across the nation were notified Monday that the AP tests will be administered online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The College Board announced students will take a 45-minute online free-response exam at home for this school year only. The exam will cover the standard topics students should have learned in class through March and offered on two separate tests date for each AP subject.

“I don’t think it is a good idea for AP tests not to have the multiple-choice and be replaced with FRQS because students have been preparing for a test that is both elements,” AP student and junior Rachel Abbe said. “It is also is harder for people who do not have access to computers.”

College Board is providing free AP review classes delivered by AP teachers from across the country. The courses are optional and meant to be used along with work given out by schools starting Mar. 25. The full exam schedule is available starting April third.

“Changing the AP tests to online and making the questions FRQ only is unfair to students who have been studying all year for the multiple-choice section in addition to the FRQs,” AP student and junior Katrina Boren said. “ Although the tests will be shorter, this is not what we have been preparing for and therefore is unfair to the students who have logged hours in preparation for these important tests.”
