Released on May 18, 2021, 2149 The Aftermath was a very mediocre film. This movie is a sci-fi film focusing on the dystopian world created in the future. It proved to be depressing and unfulfilling.

This movie has a notable selection of actors and an extraordinary set. While parts of the movie had entrancing props and were filmed in a captivating environment, the overall outcome was disappointing. The film was very predictable and had a slow start.

The movie takes place in the year 2149 as the world is currently recovering from a destructive war that caused the air to be inhabitable for life. Humans bunkered in a series of pods that allowed them to take shelter. This type of day-to-day life is continual for 9 years.

Molly Parker (Lillian), Juliette Goselyn (Dara), Daniel Divenre (Steven), and Jordyn Negri (Beth), were all actors who played the role of the family found by Darwin (Nick Krause) after he ventured into the outside world due to his pod being destroyed. After finding that the air is suitable to live in, he takes shelter with them.

The setting of the movie was impressively realistic. The tiny pod was made perfectly to have the audience sympathize with the main character’s miserable emotions. When Darwin goes outside for the first time, the movie is shot in a stunning location where you see nature at its finest.

The flashbacks of Darwin’s early life and how the story of Dara’s past with her father affects her relationship with Darwin really binds the plot together. There was exceptional dialogue and each character was very well-spoken.

While there were some good aspects, the movie was depressing and not enough happened. It is slow, short, and contains little action. There’s not enough backstory to make it interesting, and it’s very confusing as to what’s actually going on.

The story never explains why the government wants to keep the people in the pods, and viewers never learn what happened during the war. The war was only briefly mentioned when it should’ve played a big role in the plot.

A big part of the picture was how the people were feared into staying in the pods and living a repetitive life filled with non-stop work. The movie was made to show the destructive outcome of war and the government.

This movie is not recommended. There are tons of dystopian sci-fi films that cover the topic much better than this one. Although it’s short, it’s a waste of time that could be used to watch a much more suspenseful and interesting movie.

“2149 The Aftermath” was released on May 18 and is available for purchase on Vudu and FandangoNOW. It is rated R.
