International transfer Junior Fauchere is welcomed to Costa

Jazzy Fauchere moved from Toronto, Canada to Manhattan Beach, California during the end of September 2021, but took her sophomore year online due to her still traveling to and from Canada. Fauchere came to Costa with first day fears but quickly fell in love with the mustang environment.

“I have been adjusting very well to Costa [and] all of my teachers have been great and supportive.” Fauchere said. “[Since registering] I have made lots of kind and welcoming friends”

During her time at Costa, Fauchere has experienced her first highschool football game and has been able to be a part of film class. According to Fauchere she is staying busy to avoid missing home.

“I have made a lot of new friends here in California, we love to hang outside of school.” Fauchere said. “ They have been showing me places I have never been before [like] Crumbl Cookies”

Fauchere’s main struggle is adjusting to Costa as the curriculum is vastly different from Canadian subjects. According to Fauchere, she was very nervous to take U.S history because she automatically felt behind.

“When it comes to comparing the curriculum between American and Canadian, it depends on the subject.” Fauchere said. “For [Fauchere], English is very similar [while] math can be vastly different”

Her advice for students coming to a new school out of state or country is to keep a positive attitude and be open to new experiences. Fauchere keeps this mentality daily to create the best high school experience for herself.

“I accepted the fact that it’s ok to be nervous on the first day” Fauchere said. “If you go into the first day with negative thoughts your day will automatically be challenging”

One thing she is sad to leave behind in Toronto is the snow, since she regularly skies and snowboards. Though she has a new found love for the beach since coming to the South Bay.

“My favorite thing [about California] is going to the beach with my friends” Fauchere said. “Back in Canada, I lived nowhere near the beach, [now] whenever I have spare time, I go to the ocean”

Fauchere has a passion for cinematography and travel, starting a career in Los Angeles has been one of her dreams. According to Fauchere, she is so excited to live out the rest of her High School years in Manhattan Beach.

“I can’t wait to try new clubs and have new experiences”  Fauchere said. “I am so happy to be a mustang and have the opportunity to continue pursuing my passions”
