Junior Stone Seligson obtained a sponsorship on Oct. 12 from the clothing brand Legends. Seligson received his sponsorship for volleyball, which he’s played since he was 10 years old. Seligson began his volleyball journey with MB Surf, a volleyball club that was started in 2006 by Manhattan Beach residents Larry and Christine Mirick.

“I fell in love with volleyball the second I started playing in fourth grade with my friends,” Seligson said. “My dad played volleyball growing up and always encouraged me to be the best player I can.”

Legends is a Los Angeles-based clothing brand that creates clothing, art and media influenced by sports culture. Legends is an all-male brand focusing on T-shirts, tank-tops, jackets, sweatshirts, shorts, pants, and base layers. Legends has collaborated with the National Football League Los Angeles  team, the Rams. Legends says its message to buyers is that this clothing is “designed for the bold, self-expresser who has swagger and confidence in everything they do.”

“I really love this brand because the clothing is super comfortable, and I fully support the message of expressing yourself. Legends clothing helps me express myself as an individual and an athlete,” Seligson said. “I can use the clothes to train or just wear them everyday. My favorite items from Legends are their shorts and their hoodies.”

Seligson has played for Costa boys indoor and beach volleyball teams all of three years of high school. In the past, he has played the setter, opposite hitter, and outside hitter.

Seligson found his passion in beach and indoor volleyball and has competed in many tournaments since then. For volleyball, Seligison has traveled to Chicago, Missouri, Hawaii and Milwaukee. In addition, he has won Costa indoor most improved player and has won over 30 beach tournaments.

“Traveling and playing in tournaments is one of my favorite things about playing volleyball,” Seligson said. “I am able to connect with my teammates outside of the court, which is just as important as playing. The friends I’ve made are people who will be in my life forever. Playing with people who share the same passion as me is really inspiring.”

According to Seligson, he wants to continue to pursue volleyball in college. At the moment, Seligson is considering multiple schools including Pepperdine University in Malibu. In college, he wants to major in Economics and play indoor volleyball as an outside hitter.

“College is extremely important to me because I want to continue to grow as an athlete and as a volleyball player.” Seligson said. “Playing volleyball in college will advance my skill level and help with opportunities in the future, too. Continuing to get sponsored by brands like Legends will help me succeed.”
