Senior guards Will Householter and Dylan Black were named basketball All-Bay League co-MVPs at the end of the Mustangs’ 2022-23 League season.

“Dylan and I have been playing together since we were in the third grade,” Householter said. “Because of this we have pretty good chemistry on the court, which allows us to find each other for easy shots.”

Being a varsity starter as a freshman, Householter has developed many close friendships with the rest of the seniors on the team. According to Householter, ending their last season has been a difficult goodbye for the seniors as they have been playing together from such a young age. However, basketball will continue to act as his escape from reality, according to Householter.

“I love playing basketball because it’s my outlet from any problems I’m facing in life,” Householter said. “It’s time I can just set aside where I know I’ll enjoy every minute of it. Throughout the years I’ve enjoyed every team I’ve played with, but this season is by far the most special.”

As a three-year varsity captain and four-year varsity starter, Householter has earned All-Area, Daily Breeze’s Athlete of the Week, Bay-League Most Outstanding Player, Bay League First Team All League, and now All-Bay League co-MVP. Householter plans to further his basketball career at Claremont Mckenna College next year.

“These achievements represent all the work I have been putting into the sport,” Householter said. “I’m currently committed to play basketball at Claremont McKenna for the next four years, and I think that is where my competitive basketball career will end.”

Along with Householter, Black has been playing basketball since he can remember. He has been varsity captain for three years and has worked extremely hard to reach the level he’s at now, according to Black.

“I have always loved basketball, and the satisfaction of making a shot has stuck with me since I was young,” Black said. “I just worked as hard as I could and ended up where I am. Nothing too special.”

Throughout his time at Costa, Black has been awarded the 2021 Ocean View High School Tournament MVP, Second Team All-CIF, Second Team All-Bay League, All-Tournament Team, and now All-Bay League co-MVP. Black is committed to play Division III basketball at Carnegie Mellon starting in the fall.

“I was really excited when I received the information that I was awarded All-Bay League co-MVP,” Black said. “Winning this award was definitely a goal of mine before the season started.”

After playing together for nearly ten years, the boys have developed great chemistry and are happy to have received this Bay League recognition together. According to Householter, this award represents all of the hard work and dedication the two have been putting in since the season started. Although they are sad to see eachother go, Householter and Black are off to bigger and better things in the fall, playing at the collegiate level.

“Being on the Costa team has allowed me to make lifelong friends and learn amazing life lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” Black said.
