Isabella reminisces on La Vista’s trip to New York

If you follow the instagram of our paper, @lavistamedia, you will definitely know what I am
talking about. Special thanks to Raci, our amazing executive features editor and social media
manager, for keeping everyone updated. Finally, after what seemed like years (which it was), La
Vista was able to take its “annual” trip to New York. It took a lot of planning, patience and
commitment, but I am eternally grateful to everyone that was able to come on the trip.
The sole reason for this trip was to attend CSPA’s 99th-annual spring convention, which
consisted of journalism conferences at Columbia University. The amount of learning that I was
able to take home definitely cannot be explained in this small space. I remember after our first
day at the convention, I went up to Michael McAvin, La Vista’s advisor, and exclaimed, “Mac
everything they had said, you have taught us already and it was so validating!” The convention
was so beneficial, and I am so excited to use what I learned on the paper.

This trip was really one of the best memories that I can take away from my high school journey.
From conferences to walking Times Square to drinking coffee all day long, I had an absolute
blast. We shared laughs, stayed up late catching up on homework and stayed up until midnight
for McLean to dance her Irishness away on St. Patrick’s Day.

I want to give a special thank you to our chaperons McAvin, Jennifer Goldman and my mother,
Caroline Torres. Without these amazing people, I probably would have gone on the wrong flight
and ended up in the Bronx. Needless to say, they single-handedly allowed me to have the time
of my life.

I was able to share my love for New York with my favorite people, La Vista. To all the girls who
attended, you guys are such intelligent young women who I know in turn will do great things on
this paper when I depart.
