On Wednesday, softball faced off against long-time rivals Redondo Union Seahawks in a tough away conference game, ending in a loss 5-2.

The game started off with neither team managing to score in the first two innings. The Seahawks took the lead in the third inning with three runs. Despite a scoreless fourth inning, Redondo managed to add two more runs in the fifth, extending their lead 5-0.

“We kept our heads up and stayed positive throughout the game, even when things weren’t going our way,” sophomore Maddie Riethmiller said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we’re all proud of the effort we put out on the field.”

Senior Hayley Cardeneas was crucial to the team’s playing during the sixth inning, hitting a double and scoring twice, which gave the Mustangs a chance to close the gap on the scoreboard. Despite their best efforts, the Mustangs were unable to secure the victory against Redondo, ultimately ending the game with a score of 2-5. As the softball season continues, the Mustangs are gearing up for the upcoming CIF playoffs in the upcoming weeks, game locations and times yet to be announced.

“Our focus now is on upcoming CIF games, and we’re excited for the opportunity to compete at that level,” said Reithmiller. “We’ve been working hard all season to get to this point, and we’re going to come back even stronger.”
