Ava and Sofia look forward to the year ahead

By Ava Nicols and Sofia Williams

Editors-in-Chief

Hello everyone! Our names are Ava and Sofia, and we are incredibly grateful and excited to be writing our first Ed Note as editors-in-chief! We are looking forward to the coming year, and we hope you are too. As editors-in-chief, we hope to continue to produce a paper that not only informs the Costa community about current events, but that provides a dynamic outlet for thoughts, opinions, ideas, and news that students and community members alike will appreciate.

We would be remiss if we didn’t thank Isabella and Elizabeth, the fantastic editors-in-chief of the 2022-23 issue, for helping this paper to become what it is today—an insightful, well-run publication that gives a voice to Costa’s student body and provides important information to our community. They have taught us so much, not just about page design and editing, but about how to lead with grace, be assertive, and delegate tasks to others. Bella and Elizabeth—the two of you have accomplished so much with La Vista and assembled an amazing team of young people. You should be very proud of the paper you have led for the last nine months.

That being said, we have big shoes to fill. We recognize and appreciate the positions given to us and are committed to maintaining the level of achievement that is expected of editors-in-chief. We both have climbed the ranks in La Vista, moving up from staff writers to online editors, then to section editors, and now to running the managing board. There are many parts to a newspaper that make it a group effort. Our experience in La Vista has been shaped through each of these positions, as they have allowed us to experience the many different perspectives needed to put out this paper.

To La Vista’s 2023-24 staff—we are so incredibly grateful for all the hard work and dedication you have put into this paper in order to achieve your positions. We look forward to an amazing year ahead, full of camaraderie and collaboration. We are lucky to have all of you as our staff, and we hope to work closely with you throughout the year to make this paper even better than it already is. The upcoming school year will require hard work and dedication, but we are excited to face it head-on as a team.
