Assigned parking spots in the senior parking lot to prevent tardiness, tickets and stress would be beneficial. Costa has very limited and expensive parking which creates a struggle for students 5 out of 7 days of the week. Finding parking spots at school causes students to be late to their classes forcing them to rush out of the door 20 minutes earlier than necessary.
According to Mira Costa High School, parking permits are available for students who have signed up for a spot and whose names are drawn at random annually. Parking permits require a valid California driver’s license along with your car’s registration and insurance. The current student parking system does not consider grade levels, age or reasoning and permits are chosen randomly through a draw. While the current parking system is unbiased, it is expensive and increases tardiness and stress.
Assigned parking can help alleviate the morning rush and reduce stress, especially when students have exams. According to (senior) Ginger Vasquez, finding parking has always been a challenge leading her to carpool with friends. Even seniors who’ve entered the draw for three consecutive years have failed to secure a parking permit. With an assigned parking system seniors can finally have the chance to disregard the worries of being tardy, getting a ticket or rushing to school
An assigned parking system can save a student from an undeserved detention. According to Newport academy, school is a common source of mental health issues, and the 5-6 hours spent there, 5 days a week and should be cherished not married. Without an assigned parking system, it becomes really easy to stroll into class after the bell, leading to tardies, which after 3 leads to detention. As a senior, spending more time at school is the last thing you want to do, but with assigned spots, it’s unlikely to happen.
The current parking system operates on a completely unbiased basis for the limited available spots. Seniors deserve the opportunities to navigate their final year of highschool without the unnecessary stress of securing a parking spot or taking a $50 ticket when none can be found.
Parking spots in senior parking should be assigned as they allow students to get to class on time and not rush out the door in order to do so. School affects so many students’ mental stability when it comes to tests, assignments or due dates. A small issue like unassigned parking should not be what’s putting students in detention, affecting their stress levels or affecting their bank accounts.
