“The Nun ll” is an intriguing and suspenseful American horror film that lures viewers in with its haunting cinematography and eerie soundtrack.

The plot follows two nun sisters, Irene and Debra, who are investigating the string of bloody church murders at a French boarding school. They discover that Valak, the demonic nun who is responsible for this, is a fallen angel rejected by God, who is seeks the eyes of St.Lucy, a powerful holy relic.

“The Nun ll” has immersive graphics, sounds, and illustrations that help visualize the story-telling and create a sense of realism. The film also excels at strategically placing “jump-scares” at moments that catch the viewers off guard. The visual story-telling and filming style of The Nun ll masterfully captures the frightening mood, and the use of shadows and lights enhance the feeling of dread and unease

This horror film is a sequel to the original 1950s-set movie, and is the ninth installment in The Conjuring Universe Franchise. The filmmakers succeeded at bringing a nightmarishy surreal vision to life with realistic props and creepy costume. The French boarding school setting feels authentic and contributes to the overall sense of edginess.

The filmmakers also successfully heightened tension and left viewers on the edge of their seat, as the storyline unfolds with many unexpected twists and turns. They placed the main characters in vulnerable and terrifying situations, producing a sense of exhilarating fear for the audience, letting the viewers minds wander, thinking of what could happen next.

The casting of “The Nun ll” was phenomenal. Each actor portrays their characters, beautifully, and the main cast members that starred in this film were Storm Reid (Debra), Taissa Farmiga (Irene), and Jonas Bloquet (Maurice).

Both Storm Reid and Taissa Farmiga, who portrayed the roles of the two nuns that were hunting down Valak, worked extremely well together and their chemistry was apparent throughout the movie. Jonas Bloquet took his acting to another level when he was being “possessed” by the demonic nun, which is a very difficult scene to act out.

This movie was released Sept 8, and is currently available in theaters. As of October 25, 2023, it will be available for subscribers on HBO Max
