The Mira Costa Mustangs played at home against San Juan Hills Sept. 15, eventually losing 28-20. The Mustangs came out strong with a 14-0 lead and held the lead until the fourth quarter before San Juan Hills wide receiver led the team to an impressive comeback in the final 3 minutes. San Juan Hills scored three unanswered touchdowns and ran away with the game.

The Mustangs were led on offense by senior Reece Leonard, who scored two key touchdowns, keeping Costa ahead of its opponent. On defense, junior Eli Cebula had two pass breakups.

“Our team is starting to look very promising. After losing our first three games, we are hungry for a win. The team has been putting in the hours and is ready for Villa Park,” said Cebula.

Sept. 22, Costa (0-3) will take on Villa Park at home. After beating Villa Park last year, 28-21, they are looking to bring the first win of the season.
