Doja Cat’s new album named “Scarlet,” is based on her alter ego and who she aspires to be. “Scarlet” phenomenally represents rebirth and a new chapter of creative passion, new thoughts, and aspiring ideas.

Doja Cat’s first hit song was “So High.” She then went on to win her first Grammy in 2022 for Best Duo/Group with her hit “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA. She has continued to strongly grow in both singing and character.

After her debut on SoundCloud, the artist began releasing songs on Spotify. Her Tik Tok hit, “I’m a Cow,” officially launched her musical career. While Doja Cat fears that many don’t take her or her music seriously, she used this album to help contradict this popular opinion by expressing her talent throughout.

Leading up to the release, Doja Cat dropped the song “Paint the Town Red” which went viral on Tik Tok and helped to launch the release of her album. This song was important for the launching of her album as it brought her many new fans and supporters.

Doja Cat’s album release focuses on herself and her skills, though failing to include or showcase any features. Doja Cat uses this album to solidify her rapping skills as she raps throughout the entirety of the album and proves her haters wrong.

Doja Cat combines rap and pop which provides the listener with an entertaining mix of rhythms and styles. However, Doja Cat states that her inspiration surrounded 90s hip hop with modern day rap as well.

Despite the interesting background behind the album, many believe that it fails to deliver. Many supporters believe that these songs combine different styles, techniques, and rhythms which creates gaps in the album and a lack of cohesion.

With many hit songs, it becomes difficult for Doja Cat to live up to her supporters’ high standards. Although the album as a whole doesn’t compare to her past albums, certain songs such as “Paint the Town Red,” “Demons,” and “Often,” continue to be fan favorites.

Although this album was a bit controversial due to the inappropriate words and descriptions used, it was a big step in the right direction for Doja Cat as she was able to express her love and ability for rap and hip hop. Her dedication to her music has continued to shine through everything she releases.

“Scarlett” was released on September 22, 2023 and streams on all streaming services.
