Costa Boys Water Polo Finishes 2-2

Boys waterpolo sets up an attack against the opposing teams' goalkeeper. The team finished 2-2 in the week of October 17th.

Costa water polo finished 2-2 the week of Oct 7-16. In their first game, Costa lost to Santa Margarita High School, 9-8, on Oct. 7,  beat Santa Monica 15-8 on Oct. 10 and defeated Culver City on Oct.12 15-3, before losing to Los Alamitos Oct. 13, 8-16. 

“This week we played hard and although we couldn’t bring home the Santa Margarita win.” Senior Penn Clay said. “I think we are really coming together to compete well in D1,”

 After going 2-2 for the week, Mira Costa is in first place in Bay League play, with an overall record of 13-8 and a Bay League record of 4-0. Costa plays Redondo on Oct. 17 at home, Loyola on Oct. 18, and a league carousel on Oct. 19. CIF games start in November, and Costa’s first game will be Nov. 1. Last year Costa lost in the CIF quarterfinals. 

This year the players and coaches training schedule is even more rigorous than last years, according to senior RJ Turner. The players have around four days of practice a week. In the morning they swim before school or do weights to keep in shape. After school they work on their shooting, passing and plays for upcoming games, said Turner. 

‘We have a much stronger team than we did last year, and we are doing better overall. Heading into some of the biggest games we will play, I feel confident in my team, ” said Turner.
