Meet Costa’s 2023 Homecoming Court

La Vista looks into Costa’s Homecoming court nominees. The winners will be announced Oct. 27.

 

Akash Mishra is the secretary-general for MUN, co-president of Speak the World club, and is a member of Comedy Sportz. He also serves as the mock election chair and is a student representative for the Manhattan Beach community.

“I’m stoked to be on the Homecoming court,” said Mishra. “I’m thrilled for the week and am so grateful that I’m able to kick off the first dance of my senior year.”

Emma Darrow is the co-president and co-founder of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club. She is also the ASB school board representative, NCL vice president of communications, beach volleyball coach and member of the Mira Costa girls flag football and beach volleyball teams.

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to be on the Homecoming Court,” said Darrow. “I know it’s going to be so much fun!”

Hunter Gregory plays water polo and is a member of Costa’s varsity team. He also founded the MCHS BBQ Club and co-runs it with several friends. His favorite movie is “Mac and Devin Go to High School.”

“I feel so humbled by this nomination,” Gregory said. “I am forever indebted to the people of Costa, and, of course, the MCHS BBQ Club Barbies that meet every other Monday for voting for me.”

Devan Malik is heavily involved with many clubs on campus including Jewish Cultural Club, Cybersecurity Club, and Science Olympiad. In addition, he plays trumpet for Costa’s Jazz I band.

“I’m really excited for the nomination,” Malik said. “I want to be able to participate in all the activities during Homecoming week like the costumes, pep rally, football game, and everything else.”

McLean Grimes is involved in multiple activities on Costa’s campus, including La Vista, Mustangs of Hope, Link Crew, Friendship Club, and the soccer and track teams. Her favorite movie is “Legally Blonde.”

“I feel really honored to be nominated for Homecoming Court,” said Grimes. “I am excited for Homecoming week and to represent the Friendship Club!”

Whitney Marsh is a member of MUN and Comedy Sportz. She is also a dancer who competes at Rise Academy of Dance in Redondo Beach. She is a varsity dance team co-lead at Costa.

“I’m super excited about being on Homecoming court because I love to dress up and show school spirit, and I think all the costumes will be really funny,” said Marsh.

Tyler Hirshberg plays for the school football and volleyball team. He is also an avid member of Costa’s Jewish Cultural Club.

“As a senior attending my last Homecoming, I want to make it a memorable one,” said Hirschberg. “For me, Homecoming represents a transition from one chapter of life to another.”

Vivian Wood plays lacrosse and flag football.Wood also babysits and is a part of her church’s leadership program.

“I’m so excited and grateful to be on the Homecoming Court,” said Wood. “There’s a lot to do in the next few weeks, but it’s so worth it, and I think it’s going to be such a fun time.”

Dash Clark plays lacrosse, is a part of Model United Nations (MUN) at Costa, and is an avid fire dancer. According to Clark, he is excited to participate in Homecoming week.

“I feel great to be nominated on Homecoming court,” said Clark. “Royalty runs in my blood, so it was expected.”

Sienna Frederick was on the dance team for two years before switching to the Drama Department. She is heavily involved with school plays and Comedy Sportz and performed in “Mamma Mia” and “Love Sick” last year.

“I’m very excited about Homecoming,” Frederick said. “If I had to pick, my favorite show is ‘Vanderpump Rules.’”

Carter Ring is a member of Costa’s tennis team and is the commissioner of elections for ASB. He is a member of Costa’s National Honors Society chapter and is a four-time scholar athlete. His favorite show is “Breaking Bad.”

“I’m very excited to be on Homecoming Court,” said Ring. “I think it will be a lot of fun with the other court members!”

Margot Powell is a part of ASB, Comedy Sportz, and lacrosse. Powell loves to play guitar and hang out with friends and family.

“I’m so excited about being on court! It will be loads of fun to dress up in silly outfits, dance at the pep rally, and make a funny video.” said Powell. “I also love the crew and my partner. [We’re] going to have so much fun!”
