The team celebrates after forcing a turnover. The Mustangs went 0-2 against Redondo and Peninsula on Oct. 19.

Costa’s girls flag football team went into the game with lots of confidence against Redondo High School, their biggest rival, on Oct. 19.

The game against Redondo was close. Both teams put in a lot of effort and the score stayed even. Lola Fasano continued to excel game after game. She communicated with her teammates well and made a great catch in the second half. She ran the offense well, but they came up short when it came to scoring touchdowns. The Costa defense was even more impressive as they broke up passes all game against Redondo’s strong offense.

The game ended with Mira Costa losing 13-0 to Redondo, leaving the team with a sense of disappointment. Mira Costa knew they played their best, and that their skills and hard work they put into their outstanding first season paid off. Costa’s next opponent was Peninsula High. After losing to Redondo, the Mustangs were determined to redeem themselves.

Junior Starter Lola Fasano says “We as a team came up short, but that did not stop our confidence rolling into the second game versus Peninsula.”

The team was strong just as they were in the first game, but came up short again in a long fought and intensely close game 26-20 in their second game.
