The 51st-annual Hometown Fair took place Oct. 7-8 and hosted several booths featuring food, games, community information and vendors.

At the entrance of the fair, several community booths were lined up, including a booth promoting the 2023 Skechers Pier-to-Pier Friendship Walk. Along Valley Drive, there were also various arts and crafts booths. Throughout the fair, several bands played on either the main stage, located on Dorsey field, or the Dietz stage, located on the Live Oak field.

“My band’s name is Thin Ice,” said junior singer Deacon Lesser. “It was really awesome to sing in the fair to a great audience.”

On Dorsey field, various food booths were available, such as Costa football’s tri-tip booth. Other food options included churros and frozen lemonade. There was also a beer garden located on Dorsey field and a stage where live music was played.

“I worked the football booth, and I liked it because the tri-tip smelled really good,” said senior football player Dean Staso. “It was very successful– we sold out early and had a great time.”

There were also several game booths hosted by Costa organizations including boys soccer, Link Crew, Jewish Cultural Club and Model United Nations (MUN). Each held a unique game like a dunk booth or friendship bracelet making.

“[The Hometown Fair] is a great way to support all the unique activities at Costa,” said junior Link Leader and boys soccer player Jack Mohr. “It’s a great event for everyone.”

Other food and game booths were located on the Live Oak field. Games including boys and girls golf’s putting game and girls soccer hairspray booth. There was also a variety of food booths that sold items like hamburgers, crumble cookie, kettlecorn, cotton candy, shaved ice, potato spirals and more.

“It’s a good bonding experience for all the grade levels because we all get to work together,” said senior girls soccer player Paige Tynan. “It’s fun to see your teammates outside of soccer and out- side of school.”

In addition to the booths, the fair also hosted a “Kid Country” that included a petting zoo, balloon artist, magic/animal shows and more. In between the two fields, Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation also hosted a mini golf course.

“Everybody was really happy, and it was super cute to see all of the kids up on the dance floor,” said Lesser. “There was a really inspiring sense of community.”
