This week, boys soccer played against Palos Verdes on Wed. Jan 10. The game went into Golden Goal, and ended after 20 minutes of overtime before ending in a tie.

“ It wads a scrappy, high-energy game,” said Junior left back Rocco Petroni. “It will only prepare us to hopefully perform in open division, our end goal.”

Senior forward Marco Bottene scored the first goal around 20 minutes into the first half. Shortly after the first goal, PV began to engage in disputes with the Mustangs. There was a total of 4 yellow cards thrown, 3 against PV, and 1 against Costa. In the end, PV scored a penalty kick off of an accidental hand ball on Costa, resulting in the 1-1 score.

“It was a tough battle,” said program head, Gary Smith. “In the end, it was a fair result.”

Costa’s next game is on Friday, at Santa Monica. Looking into next week, Costa will play at Redondo, Tuesday, along with Culver City on Friday at home. Costa’s overall record is 15-1-3.

“After The Redondo game that will be the half way point of our Bay league season,” said Smith. “The goal of course is to be 5-0 at that time. “
