“They were very fast and athletic,” sophomore midfielder Mary-Kate Brown said. “We matched them with our defensive strategy and team chemistry, and we know we can beat them.”

The game remained scoreless for the entirety of the first half. At the start of the second, senior forward Juju Arensdorf scored off of senior midfielder Sydney Bushman’s free kick. The Eagles scored towards the end of the match, and caused the game to end in a 1-1 tie.

“We knew it would be a tough match going into the game,” Brown said. “We knew we were just as good and were capable of winning, we just did not capitalize.”

According to senior midfielder Mia Crisera, the team believes that they need to work better on the defensive end to stop the Eagles’ dynamic offense and advance to the finals.

“Along with finishing on our goal-scoring opportunities, we know where we need to improve,” Crisera said. “We need to do better defensively off of our set pieces in order to win.”

The Mustangs were ranked by Maxpreps as the third-best team nationally. According to Crisera, the team feels that they face adversity each game being the team other schools aim to beat.

“It definitely puts a target on our backs to be ranked so highly,” Crisera said. “We can’t let it inflate our egos and each game we feel we have something to prove.”
