Out of the many rappers trying to make it big, one new artist is getting a little more notice than others. Mac Miller’s “Best Day Ever,” released on March 11, is sure to excite this rookie rapper’s fans while bringing him further into the spotlight.

Miller, a 19-year-old white Pittsburgh native, earned respect from many with both his eye-opening mixtape “K.I.D.S.” and his appearance with Wiz Khalifa on his last tour. “Best Day Ever” features varied beats and meaningful lyrics about Miller’s best days and experiences.

The album opens with the title track, in which Miller explains how truly happy and excited he is about his new life as a musician. Miller flows to an upbeat, catchy tempo over one of the album’s better beats, and really kicks off the album well.

The title track smoothly leads into “Get Up,” which is one of the stronger tracks on the album. The song is dedicated to Miller’s journey thus far through the hip-hop world.

One of the most well-known tracks on the album is “Donald Trump.” A combination of a heavy bass line and Miller’s catchy lyrics keeps the song alive. This track leads into his more “party feel” songs.

“Snooze” and “Oy Vey” are similar to (but not quite as enjoyable) as “Donald Trump.” They both give off a typical party animal vibe and are the two least important and meaningful songs in the album.

The ultimate feel-good party song on “Best Day Ever” is “All Around the World.” Definitely one of the best tracks on the album, “All Around the World” gets listeners off their feet and leaves them singing along to Miller’s lyrics.

Miller adds a well-written track about his love for his family and friends with “I’ll Be There.” This song serves as a pledge to support his family, and features Miller’s signature vocal sound over a piano with occasional tidbits of gospel choir.

Unlike many other rappers, Mac Miller actually has a decent singing voice that he shows off in his music. Many songs on this album and past tracks like “Knock Knock” and “In The Air” show all sides of Mac’s voice, including his ability to flow and carry a tune.

“Play Ya Cards Right” is dedicated to old school rap. Mac’s freestyle flow over an easy beat turns this song into another one of the best tracks on the album. The sound of this song is very reminiscent of ‘90s hip-hop.

In the songs “Wake Up” and “Down the Rabbit Hole,” listeners get a perfect beat that gives off the overall feel-good theme of the album. ID Labs, Teddy Roxpin, Just Blaze and Chuck Inglish all get credit for producing these songs and making what Mac does look easy.

Somewhat similar to “I’ll Be There” is a song called “She Said,” which paints a picture of Miller’s take on life and his environment. This song strays away from the party scene and reveals Miller’s storytelling skills.

After two amazing mixtapes, “K.I.D.S.” and “The High Life,” fans were expecting nothing less than a killer third album from Mac Miller. He did not disappoint. Each song on “Best Day Ever” will be remembered because they are all unique from one another.
