Editors’ Note: Our past will lead us to greater success in the future

Editors-in-Chief

Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once said, “Success is a peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable.”
After one amazing year, due mostly to the guidance of our predecessors, La Vista is set up to succeed.

If you haven’t noticed, this issue of La Vista was produced by a brand new staff. The people whose names line the staff box to the left of this story are all taking on brand new jobs and responsibilities.

Gone are the names of our wise and tested predecessors, who deserve much of the credit for the dynamic team of editors and writers we have assembled as our next staff. Now, the torch is being passed on to us by Adam Robak and Leo Shaw, two of the most influential editors-in-chief this paper has seen.

Under its watchful guidance, La Vista’s role in the Mira Costa community has expanded enormously. We now produce a constant stream of breaking news and up-to-date sports stories online and consistently publish stories that spark discussion about issues relevant to our school.

As their successors, our task is to take the great foundation they have laid for us and build upon it, as La Vista evolves into a true multimedia organization.

This involves an internal transition to streamline and improve the publication of our content. Whether it be through the printed word of our newspaper or multifaceted media of our website, we will strive to be the first source for Costa news.

Adam and Leo’s constructive criticism of our editing, writing and management styles has made us ready to lead this staff into the future of journalism and take the paper itself to the next level.

While they laid the foundation for the transformation of La Vista’s publication, they also cultivated a crop of journalists that is both extremely capable and excited to tackle the issues ahead.

The success of this paper is as much due to the actions of its editors-in-chief as it is to the team they assemble to carry out their vision with them.

In all honesty, no one can ever be fully prepared to assume the role of editor-in-chief of the living beast known as La Vista. Having said that, Adam and Leo have provided us with the tools we need to succeed by setting a remarkable example, teaching us how to lead in our own right, and providing us with this incredibly talented and experienced cast of editors.

We are confident in the ability of our new staff to face the blitzkrieg of problems that will challenge La Vista, learning from each trial.

Our staff hopes to augment stories on the web with topical videos and graphics and explore other avenues of communication that allow us to meet readers’ interests.

Ultimately, our goal will be to provide our readership with the most timely and accurate source for Mira Costa news, whether it be through the printed page or our ever-growing web presence.

As La Vista’s next editors-in-chief, and possibly the last to occupy the labyrinth that is Room Six, we can strive for nothing less than success.
