Rebounding from their 28-14 season opening loss to Loyola, the Mira Costa football team won their home opener against Inglewood 17-0 on Friday Sept. 9.

Both teams were off to a slow start. The first score did not come until the Mustangs kicked a field goal with 42 seconds left in the first half to put them up 3-0 at halftime.

The third quarter was slow as neither team scored. The Mustangs still led 3-0 as they headed into their explosive fourth quarter. After driving down the field, the Mustangs faced a fourth down at the Inglewood 29 yard line. Junior Quarterback Alex Cuevas threw a short pass for a first down and on the next play, Cuevas faked a hand off and passed to junior  Jesse Harvey  for a touchdown to put the Mustangs up 10-0.

Inglewood, needing to score, went for it on fourth down and three on their own 17 yard line, but were unable to get the first down. The Mustangs wasted no time and Cuevas handed the ball to senior running back Steve Giovati who ran it in for a touchdown to put the Mustangs up 17-0.

The Mustangs, with an even record of 1-1, will face the Serra Cavaliers in Gardena on September 16.
