Changes to come but the name stays the same

If we have learned anything during our first production cycle, it’s that nothing will ever go as planned. It is fitting that as reporters of the news, we have had to adapt over these first few weeks of the year.

In the first week of the school year, we had to make some last-minute staff changes, function without internet access and deal with a malware infection on our website. We were lucky enough to have people fill in where they were needed and staff members skilled in coding that removed the malware for us.

Regardless of the problems we face on a day-to-day basis, we intend to drive La Vista’s evolution as a print and multimedia organization over the course of this year into the elite publication it has the potential to become.

We will continue to report the most recent news, either in print or online, and provide insightful commentary on issues relevant to the Costa community.
We have renamed the Entertainment and Features sections to Arts and Life with an intent to alter the focus of these sections to cover more of the day-to-day student life of Mira Costa and how students express themselves both on and off campus.

With the help of more subscriptions and advertisements, we hope to expand our print publication to a 28-page paper. This expansion will show readers pullouts centered around similar themes, giving the opportunity for La Vista’s more creative minds to flourish through more pages of color and intuitive designs.

This change will continue the effort that began with last year’s redesign to make La Vista appear more professional to its readers.

We also intend to drastically improve our online video content by focusing on stories that make the best of the video medium.

Instead of stories about meetings and classes, the video department will feature people in the Mira Costa community doing interesting and relevant things.

While we have significant goals to accomplish with this expansion, La Vista will not lose sight of its core value of providing the best possible content we have to offer.
