After four years of working for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Dr. Brett Geithman announced his acceptance of the job position as superintendent of Larkspur-Corte Madera School District in Larkspur, California, in an email sent to MBUSD families on April 21.

In addition to the email, MBUSD published a press release officially announcing Geithman’s departure from the district. According to Geithman, he will finish out the 2016-17 school year and assist in the transition for whomever is selected to fill his role.

“What attracted me to the position is that [the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District] has goals that are strongly aligned with MBUSD’s goals,” Geithman said.

Geithman served as the executive director of human resources for MBUSD during the 2013-14 school year, where he updated the teacher evaluation system throughout the district, MBUSD Superintedent Dr. Michael Matthews said. The following year, he began his current job in the district as the assistant superintendent of educational services.

According to Geithman, during his time as assistant superintendent, he focused on Common Core implementation and shifting the curriculum in order to meet Common Core standards appropriately.

“I’m moving through the different stages in my career, and I am always open to new opportunities,” Geithman said. “When this opportunity arose, it felt like the correct next step because it aligns with my work here at MBUSD.”

MBUSD released its first official online advertisement to replace Geithman yesterday. According to Matthews, the district hopes to fill the position by mid- to late-May.

“I hope that whomever [the district] hires will build upon what Dr. Geithman has accomplished,” Matthews said. “Each person brings a new set of skills, so I’m excited to see what happens next.”
