Mira Costa freshman Kieran Walls is taking a dip into other cultures by traveling to Europe and Africa with his grandfather and younger brother this summer.

Walls and his brother, Shea, will be immersing themselves into the unfamiliar yet fascinating lifestyles of European and African cultures. They will begin their trip in Athens and Santorini, Greece and eventually visit Tanzania and Zanzibar from June 20 to July 13.

“I am the only member of my family that has not visited Africa so my grandfather encouraged me to go with my brother,” said the younger Walls. “I am really excited for the trip because he said I will have an amazing time and come across once in a lifetime experiences.”

The Walls brothers were invited on the vacation by their grandfather, a frequent traveler.  They love to travel and have enjoyed the adventure for the past few years. They hope to learn a lot about the new and unknown cultures that they will cross paths with according to Walls.

“My favorite thing about traveling is seeing new and beautiful places and cultures,” said Walls.  “I also like meeting new people I will come across, the new ways of life, and food that I have never tried before.”

The duo hope to see both ancient and modern architectural masterpieces on Greek buildings during their trip.  They plan to embrace all aspects of Greece’s society by spending most of their time with locals.

“I am excited on seeing the different buildings in Greece,” said the younger Walls. “I was inspired by my mom to go and visit the Greek architecture because she was recently there and told me that it was beautiful.”

The Walls family will be staying at the Rufiji River Camp for five days while vacationing in Cheetah’s Rock, Zanzibar.  Here they can meet cheetahs, jaguars, and lions face to face. The Walls plan on learning native African languages in Tanzania such as the Bantu Swahili language.

“I am looking forward to the new environments and how I am going to be so far away from home,” said the younger Walls. “I am also excited to try to learn the local languages spoken by natives.”

The Walls brothers plan to travel in the future with each other and venture out into the world to expose themselves to different lifestyles.  They hope to make plenty of memories on the trip and on their journey according to Walls.

“I love to travel but I hope to travel specifically with my brother and other family members in the future,” the younger Walls said. “I love spending time with my family and I always have such a fun time.”
