Swimming pulls off wins to kick off season

On March 13, the Mira Costa boys and girls swim teams competed in their first competitive of the season versus El Segundo at home. Both the boys and girls won with scores of 89-81 and 118-39 respectively to start off the season on a positive note.

“I’m looking at another good season,” head coach Dan Bartlett said. “The girls are coming back fast and the guys are in a growth state but we can teach a lot and the kids learn quickly.”

For boys, Ryan Reede had a time of 52.27 seconds in the 100 free and Michael Brown was a double winner with a time of 210.15 seconds in the 200 IM and 1:01.10 in the 100 back.

For girls, Mariel Mitsakos won both the 200 free and 500 free with times of 201.87 and 526.40 respectively. Natalie Lavinsky had times of 25.45 in the 50 free and 55.36 in the 100 free. Maciel Osterling won the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.06 and the 100 back with a time of 107.38.

The boys team will swim again in the South Bay Invitational Prelims on March 27 and the girls will compete on the following day.
