On Thursday Oct. 11th, the Mira Costa boys and girls cross country teams competed in the second Bay League meet at Palos Verdes High School.

The girls team placed first, followed by Redondo Union High School in second, and Palos Verdes High School in third.
Junior Abby Hong finished third overall with a time of 19:10:69. In second place for Costa was senior Lauren Hagedorn in 7th place overall with a time of 19:54:74. The third to finish was sophomore Emma Lautanen in ninth overall (20:01:64), fourth went to sophomore Natasha Brunstein in 10th overall (20:06:93), and fifth went to senior Lauren Inouye in 11th overall (20:08:26).

“We knew racing without Sarah [Locke-Henderson], our number two runner, was going to be extremely difficult,” Lautanen said. “We knew we would have to push extra hard to close the gap and I’m glad we were able to.”

The boys team placed fifth overall out of the five bay league teams. Front runner for the boys was senior Michael Goldberg, placing 17th overall with a time of 17:11:71.

The teams’ next race will be on Saturday Oct. 20 at the Mount S.A.C. Invitational.
